⚔️ A Bonsai Tree Forged from Steel — Collaboration with Matt from G-Blades

Every once in a while, a project comes along that just clicks. This one started when Matt from G-Blades — yep, the same Matt who’s been featured on Forged in Fire — reached out with an idea that mixed art, craftsmanship, and pure metal passion.

He had created an incredible hand-made sword, and wanted a display that did it justice. Not a plain stand… something artistic, organic, and sculptural — something that would make the sword look alive.

That’s when we came up with the idea:
👉 A bonsai tree made from steel and copper, designed to cradle the blade like a living piece of art.

🌳 The Process

The bonsai started from scratch — raw steel rods, copper wire, and a lot of shaping, bending, and welding. The goal was to make it feel natural, like a real bonsai, but with that unmistakable forged metal character.

I forged and welded the trunk and branches, shaping them into a natural twist. The copper accents became leaves, bringing a touch of warmth and contrast against the darker steel. Each branch was positioned to balance the sword perfectly — strong enough to hold it, elegant enough to make it part of the sculpture.

Meanwhile, Matt was deep in his own process — hand-forging and shaping the custom sword that would sit in the display. Watching his blade come together while I worked on the tree was awesome. Two different crafts, same love for metal and detail.

🔥 Collaboration in Metal

When we put the two pieces together — the bonsai and the blade — it just worked. The natural and the forged. The organic and the industrial.
That’s what I love most about projects like this — it’s not just welding or fabricating… it’s creating something that carries both skill and story.

It’s a mix of both our processes — Matt’s blade-making and my bonsai fabrication — tied together in one short, satisfying video. Definitely worth a watch if you love metal art, welding, or just seeing creative builds come to life.

💬 Final Thoughts

Big thanks to Matt from G-Blades Custom Knives for bringing me in on this one.
He’s an incredible craftsman, and you can check out more of his work here:

This project is one of those that reminds me why I do what I do — blending welding, art, and imagination into something you can actually hold (or in this case, wield).
